Objective
We assess the potential consequences of COVID-19 on (neuro-)psychological functioning and on daily functioning.
To this end, we have composed a comprehensive test battery that includes measures of cognition, executive functioning, mental and general health.
To this end, we have composed a comprehensive test battery that includes measures of cognition, executive functioning, mental and general health.
Background Information
The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mainly attacks the respiratory tract and can lead to COVID-19 disease. There is also evidence that SARS-CoV-2 can also act neuro-invasively and attack the central nervous system (CNS). The blood-brain barrier, the olfactory route and the infection of immune cells are discussed as possible mechanisms. Possible consequences could therefore potentially also be cognitive impairments, which is why it is important to examine the potential consequences of COVID-19 from a (neuro)psychological standpoint.
Our Test Battery
Cognition has an impact on our lives, being an important contributer to our everyday functionality, physical and mental health, quality of life and perception of our surroundings. That is why it is paramount for us to assess the magnitude of influence the coronavirus has on our cognition in different intervals in time. To do so, we created a test battery that measures the consequences of the virus on four different domains:
Neuropsychological
Psychological
Personality
Quality of Life
These four domains allow us to look at the consequences of the virus from very different perspectives and to measure the impact on our cognition and daily life comprehensively.
The completion of the test battery does not require to finish it all at once, but also allows you to take self-determined breaks. Your answers will then be collected for us to draw conclusions. In order to assess long-term consequences, the entire study is based on three test times: a first measurement and two further follow-ups after three and six months.
